Rituxan Rituximab (IDEC-C2B8, Rituxan, MabThera), is the first antibody approved for cancer and has been the #1 anti-cancer drug worldwide since 2001. Its clinical development between 1993 and 1996 fulfilled predictions from the 1900s on therapeutic antibodies and sparked a renewed interest in protein therapeutics and cancer research. Over two million patients with non- Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHL) have been treated with rituximab since 1997. Following approval, its indications expanded to a variety of malignant and non-malignant B-cell disorders. Rituximab has been characterized as the most important therapeutic development of the last three decades.
